The title of a CBS News article released on October 23, 2012 is “Richard Mourdock: Even pregnancy from RAPE (?) something “God INTENDED” (Web-site/URL: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57538757/richard-mourdock-even-pregnancy-from-rape-something-god-intended/?tag=socsh). DISGRACEFUL.
“In a Tuesday night (October 23, 2012) debate with his Democratic rival (Joe Donnelly and a Libertarian candidate for one of Indiana’s U.S. Senate seats, Republican candidate Richard Mourdock suggested that pregnancies resulting from rape are “something that God INTENDED (?) to happen,” despite the “horrible situation” from which they derived”.
“Mourdock, a Tea Party-backed candidate who beat longtime moderate Senator Richard Lugar earlier this year (2012), expressed his view that “life begins at conception” and that he would only allow abortions in circumstances in which the mother’s life was in danger”. Again, there are TWO things to note here. First, ARE THERE ANY “moderates” left in Congress now? Everyone seems to be immersed in their own RIGID IDEOLOGIES. On top of that, let’s remind ourselves once again that the Tea Party is EXTREME. “I struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realize is that LIFE IS A GIFT from God”. NOT when the pregnancy is the consequence of RAPE. “And I think EVEN WHEN life begins in that HORRIBLE situation of rape, that it is something that God INTENDED to happen“. God should NEVER “intend” ANYTHING “horrible…to happen”. THAT’S DISGRACEFUL.
Mourdock’s opponent/challenger, Joe Donnelly, quickly/promptly responded: “The God I believe in and the God I know most Hoosiers believe in, DOES NOT intend for rape to happen — EVER” obviously. “What Mr. Mourdock said is SHOCKING and it is STUNNING that he would be so disrespectful to survivors of rape“. Yes. Well, it is generally accepted that WOMEN are a key group/demographic in society, so Mourdock certainly DIDN’T help himself with that comment/remark.
“Mourdock, SEEKING TO CLARIFY his comments in a press conference following the debate, said he had INTENDED to say that “God CREATES LIFE” and that any interpretation of his comments to mean God “PRE-ORDAINED rape” were “sick” and “twisted“. Well, “pregnancy from rape (is) something GOD INTENDED” is what we saw/read/heard. As a general principle, COMMUNICATION IS IRREVERSIBLE. Once something has been said, THERE’S NO WAY TO “clarify” what he said or TAKE IT BACK. “What I said was, in answering the question FROM MY POSITION OF FAITH (?), I said I believe that God CREATES LIFE. I believe that as wholly and as fully as I can believe it. That God CREATES LIFE. Are YOU trying to suggest that somehow I think that God pre-ordained rape? NO, I DON’T THINK THAT. That’s SICK. TWISTED. That’s NOT EVEN CLOSE to what I said. What I said is that God CREATES LIFE“. As we EXPECTED, Mourdock is scrambling to DEFEND himself (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI). Also, “You” is EXTREMELY PROBLEMATIC because again this should remind us of the “YOU made me really mad” argument which again makes people DEFENSIVE (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI).
“Santorum told CNN‘s Piers Morgan in January (2012)” “I think the right approach is to ACCEPT this HORRIBLY CREATED — in the sense of rape — but nevertheless A GIFT (?) in A VERY BROKEN WAY, the gift of human life and ACCEPT what God has given to you. We have to make the best (out) of a bad situation“. So Santorum is saying we should “accept” RAPE? WOW.
Finally, “In a statement released Tuesday night (October 23, 2012), Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul said Mourdock’s remarks WERE NOT in line with Romney’s views”. “Gov. Romney DISAGREES WITH Richard Mourdock’s comments and THEY DO NOT REFLECT HIS VIEWS“, another MECHANICAL SPOKESPERSON‘s comment/remark.
Again, this is an attack on WOMEN’S DIGNITY, just like the most traditional CHINESE women who don’t want to do anything and just live off their husbands/boyfriends. Assuming that the ratio of men:women in society is 50-50, it doesn’t take Einstein’s brain to figure out how bad and dysfunctional it would be if 50% of society didn’t do anything. THERE WOULDN’T BE ANY POINT TO THOSE PEOPLE’S LIVES and that would be THE BIGGEST/ULTIMATE insult. Let’s reiterate that there’s nothing wrong with having kids or wanting kids. It is a problem ONLY if having kids is THE ONLY issue being talked about because we can then ask: OK, this person has had a baby. WHAT IS SHE GOING TO DO FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE? Maternity is only supposed to be weeks. If the answer to that question is “Nothing” (except raise kids), that’s clearly NOT GOOD.
