SYRIA: International Community STILL DIVIDED (Al-Jazeera)

The title of a recently released Al-Jazeera article is “UN Assembly REMAINS DIVIDED over Syria” (Web-site/URL:

“The US and Russia have offered starkly differing assessments of the situation in Syria at the UN Security Council session, underscoring the global body’s INABILITY TO UNITE  around a strategy to end the civil war in the Arab country”. In the POLITICAL sensethe “inability” to do something belongs to someone who is INEPTUnfortunatelythe…inability to unite” seems to a CHRONIC problem that will be around for a long time.

“Whereas Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, DECRIED Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for “murdering his own people“, Sergey Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, ACCUSED the US and other countries of encouraging terrorism” and ARMED GANGSThis is exactly what ASSAD would sayRussia is basically singing Syria’s song and has been for a long time.

“Clinton appealed on Wednesday (September 26, 2012) for the “paralysed” council to make a new attempt to reach an accord on taking measures over the conflict”. People usually DON’T recover from PARALYSIS.“The atrocities mount while the Security Council remains paralysed and I would urge that we TRY once again to find A path forward“, ANY “path forward”. IF the Security Council IS INDEED “trying” to find a solution to this now over 19-month conflictit is clear that they AREN’T doing a very good job/NOT much IF ANY progress is being/has been made.

“The Russian foreign minister, however, showed NO sign of changing tack and said violence by the government and opposition (TERRORISTS/ARMED GANGS/GROUPS) had to be condemned”. “A significant share of the responsibility for the continuing bloodshed rests upon the states that INSTIGATE the opponents of Bashar al-Assad to reject a ceasefire and dialogue and DEMAND an unconditional CAPITULATION of the regime”Well isn’t RUSSIA ALSO “demanding”…that Assad STAY ON? This is the latest case/example of “We think they made us mad; they think we made them mad and here we go” (Web-site/URL:

“Meanwhile, Arab ministers have met with UN-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly and Tunisia’s President Moncef Marzouki said later his country COULD support an ARAB peacekeeping force in Syria”. “A peacekeeping operation by ARAB nations is something we could well imagine“, calling President Bashar al-Assad a “BLOODTHIRSTY dictator” which HE CERTAINLY IS. “We have REALLY PUSHED FOR a peaceful solution, but IF (?) it is necessary, it must be an Arab peacekeeping force, yes“.  “an ARAB peacekeeping force” as opposed to an INTERNATIONAL one? Tunisia STILL ISN’T democratic. If it werewhy is Marzouki refusing INTERNATIONAL help? WE’VE ALREADY TRIED to end the bloodshed in Syria with “an Arab peacekeeping force”IT DIDN’T WORK.

“On Tuesday (September 25, 2012), the emir of Qatar called at the UN General Assembly for an ARAB intervention in Syria”Again, this will be INEFFECTIVE.

“Arab League secretary general Nabil el-Araby told reporters (that) he DID NOT believe the emir intended a “FIGHTING force“. Unfortunately, this is about THE ONLY option left because as we have seen, Assad certainly WON’T step down voluntarily and ALL DIPLOMATIC EFFORTS HAVE FAILED.

“But he told a Security Council meeting on the Middle East that the council MUST support Brahimi by making its resolutions on SyriaBINDING on ALL partiesof course. Otherwise, it’s just LIP SERVICE that DOESN’T MEAN ANYTHING. “must” IS ALREADY LIP SERVICEbecause this implies the use of the “force and pain technique” (Web-site/URL:, but these words just seem to be EMPTY words/RHETORIC at the moment.

“Russia and China have used their powers as permanent members of the (UN Security) council three times to block resolutions which COULD HAVE led to POTENTIAL sanctions“. We always seem to be saying “could have” and “potential” these days and then NOTHING HAPPENS.

“Western diplomats say they DO NOT expect Russia, Syria’s main ally, to weaken its defense of Assad” of course. But they say China, which does not have the same strategic interests, MAY now be feeling pressure from Arab and other nations over its position”. Another theory could be simply that China is too caught up in its TERRITORIAL spats with JAPAN (DIAOYU/SENKAKU islands) and THE PHILIPPINES (SCARBOROUGH SHOALS) to pay much attention to what’s going on in Syriabut they DEFINITELY support UNDEMOCRATIC governmentswith the most obvious example being NORTH KOREA.

“Laurent Fabius, the French foreign minister, has said it was “shocking” that the council had been unable to act in the 18 months since the uprising against Assad started”. Well it’s actually NOT THAT “shocking because as we knowPOLITICIANS always DRAG THEIR FEET.

According to German foreign minister Guido Westerwelle, “As the international community, WE MUST BE UNITED (?) to stop the violence and help initiate a process of political transition. We must find A COMMON RESPONSE. We owe it to the people“. ARE WE “united” and DO WE HAVE a “common” purpose?

“David Cameron, the British prime minister, told the UN General Assembly that the tens of thousands of deaths in (the) Syria conflict had become a “terrible stainon THE REPUTATION OF  the UN”. “The future for Syria is a future WITHOUT Assad“, meaning that he must be TAKEN OUT BY FORCEThe blood of these young children is A TERRIBLE STAIN on the reputation of this United Nations”. So the reputation of THE ENTIRE U.N. is at stake here? At least this is the British PM’s INTERPRETATION (Web-site/URL: And in particular, a stain on those who have failed to stand up to these atrocities and in some cases AIDED AND ABETTED (helping to do wrong) Assad’s REIGN OF TERROR“. Of course we’re talking about RUSSIA and CHINA here.

Finally, “China’s Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi was more DEFENSIVE“, a fundamental characteristic of “Difficult People” (Web-site/URL: “China has FAITHFULLY FULFILLED (?)  its obligations and acted as a POSITIVE (?) force in seeking a political solution to the issue“. “faithfully fulfilled?” This is CHINA‘s INTERPRETATION (Web-site/URL: the latest POLITICAL CIRCUS“China IS READY (?) to join the rest of the international community in an unremitting effort to resolve the Syrian issue in a JUST, PEACEFUL and APPROPRIATE (?) way“, by CHINESE standards. China, like Russia (and we can also easily add NORTH KOREA and IRAN to this list) SUPPORTS the dictator Assad and is AGAINST the international community.

So THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY “remains divided over Syria”. NO SURPRISE THEREThis has been the case for such a long time now.
