The title of a recently released MSNBC article is “Biggest losers of Chicago’s teachers strike? THE STUDENTS, CRITIC (?) says” (Web-site/URL: http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/09/20/13969120-biggest-losers-of-chicagos-teachers-strike-the-students-critic-says?lite).
According to Kristina Rasmussen, “executive vice president of the Illinois Policy Institute, a CONSERVATIVE think tank”, “This is NOT the BIG shake up this school district needed. It goes back to the same system with kids being trapped in schools with little recourse. The students are the BIG losers“.
According to Robert Bruno, “a professor of labor and employment relations at the University of Illinois at Chicago”, “In his FIGHT WITH THE TEACHERS, he (Mayor Emanuel) still ends up with a BETTER-FUNCTIONING school day“, which is exactly what we need. TOO MUCH is DYSFUNCTIONAL these days.
“But Rasmussen believes Emanuel DIDN’T push hard enough“. “HE HAS AN OPPORTUNITY to be a great champion of education reform, but NOT if he approaches future battles with the same TIMIDITY“. Negative Words: “not” and “timidity”. A “timid” person lacks COURAGE. Rasmussen is clearly NOT happy with Emanuel.
According to University of Illinois political science professor Dick Simpson, “He TRIED to show that he’s TOUGH and on the side of the school kids and concerned with the parents, which PLAYED WELL“. DID IT? Maybe FOR THE CAMERAS. Again, this is open to INTERPRETATION (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI). Also, “toughness” must be paired/combined with COMPASSION, which is something that many people ARE NOT good at, let’s be honest.
“Supporters rushed to Emanuel’s defense”.
According to Danny Solis, “a Chicago alderman”, speaking to NBC Chicago, “WE NEEDED the longer day, WE NEEDED MORE ACCOUNTABILITY in the schools“. This is even more so the case for POLITICIANS. They need to be “accountable” more than anyone else as PUBLIC SERVANTS. “The mayor set the tone, IT WAS HARD FOUGHT”, implying, of course, that the “force and pain technique” was used (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI).
Finally, Bruno finished off: “She is A CREATION OF THE MOMENT and the experience has created a MUCH STRONGER and FORCEFUL Karen Lewis”. This is the latest example of the “force and pain technique” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI). “There were tense times and (even) PROFANITY thrown around, but in the end, she can thank Rahm EVERY NIGHT for making HER shine in and through this“. So this is all about RAHM EMANUEL and KAREN LEWIS. This is another/the latest example of two people’s ARROGANCE (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI).
To conclude, let’s go back to the title: “Biggest losers of Chicago’s teachers strike? THE STUDENTS” obviously.
