The title of a recently released Reuters article is “Romney struggles to steady campaign after SECRET videos” (Web-site/URL: http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/09/18/us-usa-campaign-idUSBRE88G19620120918). As we’ve seen with the TOPLESS KATE MIDDLETON scandal, NOTHING is exactly “secret” anymore.
“Republican Mitt Romney struggled on Tuesday (September 18, 2012) to stabilize his REELING presidential campaign after a secretly recorded video showed him belittling President Barack Obama’s supporters as victims who are TOO DEPENDENT on government“. There are THREE things to note here. First, IS Romney’s campaign TRULY “reeling?” Secondly, not much IF ANYTHING is “secret” anymore. Thirdly, “too dependent on government” is what Republicans have been screaming about ever since the HEALTHCARE REFORM debate: GOVERNMENT OVERREACH.
“The video from a closed-door (?) fundraiser in Florida in May (2012) sparked another wave of criticism of Romney’s gaffe-plagued campaign and RAISED FRESH QUESTIONS about his ability to come from behind in the polls and win the White House in November (2012)”. “gaffe-plagued” sounds like SARAH PALIN‘s 2008 vice-presidential campaign. We all know how that turned out. Sen. MCCAIN lost BECAUSE OF Sarah Palin’s “gaffes”. We also see “closed door” again. Again, little IF ANYTHING NOTHING can be done behind “closed doors” these days.
“In the clip, the first portion of which was published on Monday (September 17, 2012) by the liberal Mother Jones magazine, Romney tells donors that 47 percent of Americans will back Obama no matter what and “my job IS NOT to worry about THOSE people“. This is just downright INSULTING. One of the fundamental duties of a leader or PUBLIC SERVANT (yes let’s mention this again) is to address THE WEALTH GAP. The INDIFFERENCE behind “my job is not to worry about those people” is just shocking.
“Obama criticized Romney for WRITING OFF a BIG segment of the American electorate”. Speaking on “The Late Show” with David Letterman, the President said: “One of the things I’ve learned as president is you represent THE ENTIRE COUNTRY. My EXPECTATION is IF you want to be president, you’ve got to work for EVERYBODY, NOT JUST FOR SOME“. We clearly SHOULDN’T “(write people) off”.
“Romney also told the donors that Palestinians had NO interest in pursuing a peace agreement with Israel and achieving a separate Palestinian state WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE“. “I look at the Palestinians NOT wanting to see peace anyway, for POLITICAL purposes, committed to the destruction and elimination of Israel and these THORNY issues and I say THERE’S JUST NO WAY“. Well, ROMNEY CERTAINLY ISN’T WASTING ANY TIME EXPRESSING HIS OPINIONS on these “thorny issues”.
“The video unleashed a new wave of criticism from some Republicans who were already FRUSTRATED by Romney’sFAILURE to capitalize politically on a struggling economy and a (stubbornly) high 8.1% unemployment rate”. There are TWO things to note here. First, “unleashed” has VIOLENT/AGGRESSIVE implications. On top of this, IT’S NOT as if we need anything else to be “frustrated” about.
“William Kristol, editor of the CONSERVATIVE Weekly Standard, called Romney’s comments “STUPID and ARROGANT“, a damning criticism.
“He said (that) they do not pay income taxes and are people “who are dependent upon GOVERNMENT, who believe that they are VICTIMS, who believe (that) the government HAS A RESPONSIBILITY to care for them“. If we DON’T take the “responsibility” to “care for” and look after others when we can/have the ability to do so, WHAT THE HELL ARE WE DOING? This is even more so the case for government officials who are called “Public Servants”. They are supposed to SERVE THE PEOPLE instead of THEIR OWN NARROW SELF-INTERESTS. If we DON’T take the “responsibility” to “care for” and look after others when we can/have the ability to do so, THAT’S A BAD DAY.
Romney went on: “I look at the Palestinians NOT wanting to see peace anyway, FOR POLITICAL PURPOSES, committed to the destruction and elimination of Israel and these THORNY issues and I say THERE’S JUST NO WAY“. EVERYONE does things “for political purposes” these days.
“William Kristol, editor of the CONSERVATIVE Weekly Standard, called Romney’s comments “stupid and ARROGANT“. “arrogant” of course is a fundamental characteristic of “Difficult People” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI). OK, Republicans were smirking over some liberals not supporting the President? Well, some CONSERVATIVES DON’T support ROMNEY.
“David Brooks, a CONSERVATIVE columnist in The New York Times, said Romney did not appear to understand American culture”. Well so much for DONALD TRUMP wondering if President Obama was born in the United States. We have a presidential candidate who “(doesn’t)…understand American culture”. So we have another CONSERVATIVE who DOES NOT agree with Romney on some issues. Brooks wrote: “It’s what SELF-SATISFIED millionaires say to each other“. “self-satisified” is the latest description/example of ARROGANCE, a fundamental characteristic of “Difficult People” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI). “It reinforces EVERY NEGATIVE view people have about Romney” and of course, that’s NOT good. “He’s running a DEPRESSINGLY INEPT presidential campaign“, another DAMNING CRITICISM.
“Linda McMahon, a Republican U.S. Senate candidate in Connecticut, distanced herself from Romney’s comments, saying she disagreed and “the vast majority of those who rely on government ARE NOT in that situation because they want to be“. Does McMahon TRULY/GENUINELY mean this? McMahon, of course, ran against RICHARD BLUMENTHAL to replace the retiring CHRIS DODD in CONNECTICUT (Web-site/URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linda_McMahon). McMahon, a wrestler, didn’t make it, but another celebrity, BOBBY SCHILLING, a PIZZA PARLOR OWNER, did make it to the House (Web-site/URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Schilling).
“Romney DID NOT back away from the remarks at a Monday night (September 17, 2012) news conference in California, where he said they were “not elegantly stated” or again on Tuesday (September 18, 2012) in an interview with Fox News“, the GOP sounding board/mouthpiece.
“Romney cited a 1998 video of Obama discussing his belief in wealth distribution “at a certain level to make sure EVERYBODY’S GOT A SHOT“. “Romney said he and Obama had VERY DIFFERENT views of America”. “I think a society based upon a GOVERNMENT-centered nation where GOVERNMENT plays a larger and larger role (and) redistributes money – THAT’S THE WRONG COURSE FOR America”. This is just like JOHN BOEHNER, PAUL RYAN, MICHELE BACHMANN and MITCH MCCONNELL screaming about a “government” TAKEOVER of HEALTHCARE all over again. Again, if people are happy with their lives, they are welcome to CARRY ON/CONTINUE.
“In the video, Romney also said in response to an audience question that he would try to take political advantage of a foreign crisis similar to the Iran hostage episode that damaged President Jimmy Carter in 1980″. “I mean, if something of that nature presents itself, I will work to find a way to TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE OPPORTUNITY“.
Democrats quickly pounced on the “take advantage” remark. “Democrats LEAPED at the chance to criticize Romney for the comments and launched a new ad and fund-raising campaign focused on them”.
“On the West Bank, Palestinians said Romney was wrong to accuse them of NOT seeking peace“. According to chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat, “No one stands to gain more from peace with Israel than (the) Palestinians and no one stands to lose more in the absence of peace than (the) Palestinians. Only those WHO WANT TO MAINTAIN the Israeli OCCUPATION will claim (that) the Palestinians ARE NOT interested in peace“. Not only is this a strike against Mitt Romney; this is also a strike against THE UNITED STATES AS A COUNTRY, because, as the US has traditionally been an ISRAELI ally.
Finally, “(Romney) adviser Kevin Madden said the firestorm over the video would not distract from the campaign’s ECONOMIC focus”, as if ROMNEY can create jobs any faster than the President can. “I still think this is an election that’s focused on the economy, it’s focused on THE DIRECTION OF THE COUNTRY and I think the voters right now WHO HAVE YET TO MAKE UP THEIR MIND are still viewing it through the lens of that“.
So, with this latest ROMNEY GAFFE, it looks like PRESIDENT OBAMA still has the advantage here…FOR NOW.
