The title of a recently released Yahoo! article is “Will (Hurricane) Isaac hit Tampa during the Republican (National) convention?” (Web-site/URL: http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/storm-tampa-republican-convention-214010391.html).
“A day after the mayor of Tampa said he was prepared to CALL OFF next week’s Republican National Convention IF Tropical Storm Isaac hits the bay area as a major storm, Florida Gov. Rick Scott assured conventiongoers that “Tampa is OPEN FOR BUSINESS“. POLITICIANS disagreeing with each other IS NO LONGER a surprise/news.
Speaking on CNN, Scott said: “WE’RE A HOSPITALITY STATE. We do this every day“. POLITICIANS are “hospitable?” Also Scott is a REPUBLICAN the “Party of ‘No'” and even HELL NO (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOdvn2dtM0A), which makes “hospitality” EVEN MORE of a stretch.
“Scott said his office conducts conference calls twice a day with state, local and Republican officials to discuss contingency plans and that the convention organizers would ultimately make the “HYPOTHETICAL (?)” call to cancel the event”. THIS CANNOT BE “hypothetical”. If the GOP convention has to be cancelled because of weather, this must be a FIRM and DECISIVE decision, because PEOPLE’S LIVES ARE AT STAKE.
Scott went on: “IF something happens, (then) WE’RE GOING TO BE READY“. REALLY? POLITICIANS are known PROCRASTINATORS. “But Florida’s USED TO DO THIS“. Does this mean, then, that people DON’T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING? “WE’RE A TOURISM STATE. WE’RE GOING TO HAVE A GREAT(?)CONVENTION“. This is what SCOTT EXPECTS/HOPES/BELIEVES(Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI).
“According to Reuters, though, authorities “HAVE NOT ruled out the possibility of postponing or relocating the Republican (national) convention IF the storm takes direct aim at the city on Florida’s central Gulf Coast”.
On Wednesday (August 22, 2012), Tampa mayor Bob Buckhorn said, “ABSOLUTELY, WE ARE PREPARED TO CALL IT OFF. I mean, SAFETY and HUMAN LIFE trump POLITICS” obviously. “I THINK the RNC recognizes that“. DO THEY? “The organizers, CERTAINLY (?) Gov. Romney, recognize that“. IS THIS TRUE? Or do we have another case of the CHINESE mentality of WIN AT ALL COSTS?
On Thursday (August 23, 2012), Scott said: “These officials have been WORKING TOGETHER (?) on the convention for the past 18 months“. Do POLITICIANS “work together?” “The possibility of a hurricane has been part of that planning process. All that’s required for those plans to be activated would be for there to be a hurricane and HOPEFULLY, THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN“.
According to RNC communications director Sean Spicer, speaking on CNN‘s “Starting Point” with Soledad O’Brien, “THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS CANCELLING“. So Spicer agrees with GOV. SCOTT.
Finally, “Currently, the storm has sustained winds (wind speeds) of just 40 mph. “However,” the National Hurricane Center said, “ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS are FAVORABLE for RAPID INTENSIFICATION, which COULD occur IF the cyclone develops a well-defined inner core“. THIS IS THE LATEST “if” and officials seem to be extra vigilant/cautious in their preparations for this storm, because we all remember how CHAOTIC and DISORGANIZED the FAILED response to HURRICANE KATRINA was back in 2005.
