The title of an Al-Jazeera article released on August 18, 2012 is “Japan deports PRO-CHINA island activists” (Web-site/URL: http://www.aljazeera.com/news/asia/2012/08/2012817154256383622.html).
“Crowds in Hong Kong applaud arriving activists who carried banner reading “SUCCESSFUL (?) landing on DIAOYU islands”. WAS THIS “successful?” This is what THE CHINESE will tell us because this is what they truly BELIEVE, but again this is open to INTERPRETATIONS (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI).
“Japan has deported 14 PRO-China activists who were detained after landing on a disputed island in the East China Sea”.
“Five activists and two Chinese television journalists, who flew to Hong Kong on Friday (August 17, 2012) from Okinawa, arrived to a hero’s welcome, while the rest of the activists were taken to their boat in the Japanese port of Ishigaki”.
“Earlier on Friday (August 17, 2012), Japan’s top government spokesman had told reporters that the prime minister had approved the deportations”.
“at a news conference”, Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura said: “This is NOT something (that)the government has decided on EMOTIONALLY“, which we know is far more problematic than responding to an issue RATIONALLY. However, very few POLITICIANS act RATIONALLY. “We FIRMLY and STRICTLY responded in accordance with our DOMESTIC law” and TO HELL WITH what other people think. CHINA often adopts this stance too. As the saying goes, IT TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE.
“Prime Minister Yoshihito Noda, who had been under pressure to act on an issue that is keenly felt in Beijing AND WHO HAS ALSO BEEN DEALING WITH a territorial spat with South Korea, called a special cabinet meeting on Friday (August 17, 2012)”. “IT IS REALLY REGRETTABLE that they entered JAPAN‘s territorial waters and ILLEGALLY landed on Uotsurijima, DESPITE OUR REPEATED WARNINGS“. “territorial spats” are often IMPOSSIBLE to resolve at least in the SHORT term.
“At Hong Kong’s international airport (HKIA), crowds of Chinese passengers clapped their arrival, as the men waved red China flags and carried a banner saying: “SUCCESSFUL (?) landing on Diaoyu islands. Activists SHOW THEIR AMBITION“. WAS THIS “successful?” This is the latest BELIEF/INTERPRETATION. Also, “show their ambition” is yet another/the latest example of the “force and pain technique” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI) and again we have the “Diaoyu”/SENKAKU dispute.
“Amid EMOTIONAL scenes, the men again ASSERTED CHINA’S sovereignty over the islands and DENOUNCED Japan’s actions as illegal”. “asserted” and “denounced” are the latest examples of the “force and pain technique” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI). Also, we know that the Diaoyu/Senkaku issue is HIGHLY “emotional”.
According to activist Tsang Kin-shing, “(speaking) to a massive throng of reporters at the arrivals gate”, “The Diaoyus are a part of CHINA“. This is a PRO-CHINA ASSERTION by a CHINESE person, which is consistent/in line with EXPECTATIONS (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI).
“China’s OFFICIAL Xinhua news agency said in a commentary: “THIS TIME, the Japanese government has quickly released the illegally detained CHINESE Diaoyu people, a wise move to avoid the deterioration in Sino-Japan relations”, which has been FROSTY or even ICY for quite some time now and this is UNLIKELY to change, at least in the near term, especially given the latest spat/row/dispute. “But how to prevent the tension over the DIAOYU islands from escalating (which will be difficult to say the least) and how to avoid further harming Sino-Japanese relations, the Japanese government’s NEXT STEP IS CRUCIAL, while respecting the historical FACTS (?) and the feelings of the Chinese people, [the Japanese government] must end as soon as possible the absurd ‘buying islands’ FARCE“. THIS IS NOT THE ONLY “farce” that China finds itself engulfed in. Also, “facts” are most likely CHINA’S BELIEF(Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI). On top of all this, notice “official” which of course = COMMUNIST GOVERNMENT opinions.
“The NATIONALIST governor of Tokyo, Shintaro Ishihara, has proposed that the Tokyo Metropolitan Government buy the islands from their private owners. The prime minister wants to have the central government make the purchase instead”. Noda is interesting because in October, 2005, he “criticized Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi for his position on Japanese class A war criminals as “war criminals”. HOWEVER, “Noda supported Koizumi’s visit to (the) Yasukuni Shrine” (Web-site/URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoshihiko_Noda), which is a contentious issue for both China AND SOUTH KOREA. This can justifiably be regarded as a case of HYPOCRISY, which, again, is typical for POLITICIANS.
Finally, “Beijing resident Chen Qiyuan told Reuters he thought Japan’s REACTION showed (that) China’s TOUGH STANCE was PAYING OFF“. “I think that the Japanese are EXERCISING RESTRAINTfor FEAR [of the consequences] and are trying NOT to BLOW UP the issue“, as if this “issue” ISN’T “blown up” enough already. This is the latest example of CHINA using “fear”/INTIMIDATION or the “force and pain technique” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI).
This is the latest chapter in THE SEEMINGLY NEVER-ENDING and INCREASINGLY UGLY territorial disputes between China and Japan that just DOESN’T SEEM TO BE PROGRESSING AT ALL.
