EGYPTIANS Throw TOMATOES & SHOES At HILLARY CLINTON: Yahoo!

The title of a recently released Yahoo! article is “Egyptians PELT Clinton motorcade with tomatoes”  (Web-site/URL: http://news.yahoo.com/clinton-talks-democracy-head-egypt-army-142600571.html). “pelt” is clearly a VIOLENT action.

“Protesters threw tomatoes and SHOES at U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s motorcade on Sunday (July 16, 2012)  during her first visit to Egypt since the election of ISLAMIST President Mohamed Morsi”. Againthis is about picking THE LESSER OF TWO EVILS: we either have an ISLAMIST or a MUBARAK strongman…and Egyptians have clearly rejected THE MUBARAK STRONGMAN. Of course, there are NO good choices here.

“A tomato STRUCK an Egyptian official IN THE FACE and SHOES and a water bottle landed near the armoured cars carrying Clinton’s delegation in the port city of Alexandria”“struck” is another VIOLENT word. Also THROWING SHOES at someone is THE ULTIMATE INSULT in Islam/to a Muslim.

“A senior State Department official said that neither Clinton nor her vehicle, which were around the corner from the incident, were struck by any of the projectiles”.

Protesters chanted: “Monica, Monica”, a reference to Former President Bill Clinton’s extra-marital affair” with then-White House intern MONICA LEWINSKY. “Some chanted: “LEAVE, Clinton”, Egyptian security officials said”. There were similar calls against former dictator/strongman HOSNI MUBARAK and we are still hearing such calls against SCAF strongman MOHAMMED HUSSEIN TANTAWI, who is still very involved in Egyptian politics.

Clinton said: “I want to be clear that the United States IS NOT in the business, in Egypt, of choosing winners and losers, EVEN IF WE COULD, which, of course, WE CANNOT” obviously. Some things are simply BEYOND OUR CONTROL. “Even if we could”, WE WOULDN’T, because there are many other issues that demand our attention/are MORE IMPORTANT.

“In their hour-long meeting, Clinton and (SCAF leader MOHAMMED HUSSEIN) Tantawi discussed Egypt’s POLITICAL TRANSITION (?) and the military’sONGOING DIALOGUE (?) with President Morsi”, a U.S. official traveling with Clinton said in an e-mail brief”. IS a “political transition” from a DICTATORSHIP to a DEMOCRACY actually/TRULY occurring and IS THERE TRULY an “ongoing dialogue” between the Muslim Brotherhood and SCAF? Both groups have passionate supporters AND CRITICS.

“Tantawi stressed that this is what Egyptians need most now – HELP GETTING THE ECONOMY BACK ON TRACK“. Well, “the” ENTIRE GLOBAL “economy” is uncertau now (with all the debt problems/instability in EUROPE), so THIS WILL CONTINUE TO BE A CHALLENGE.

“Clintonstressed the importance of protecting the rights of ALL Egyptians, including WOMEN and minorities“the rights of…WOMEN…” If only CHINA would fight for this, instead of sticking with the same super-traditional attitude that women are supposed to stay home and get pregnant after marriage or even as early as entering a long-term, committed relationship.

“Speaking after the meeting, Tantawi said the army respected the presidency, BUT would not be deterred from its role of PROTECTING” Egypt”DOES “the army respect the presidency?” Again, this is open to INTERPRETATIONS (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI)Also, again, “protecting”, especially in UNDEMOCRATIC societies, often requires the “force and pain technique” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI).

“in a speech to troops in the city of Ismailia”Tantawi said: “The armed forces and the army council (SCAF) respects legislative and executive authorities“. This is what Tantawi wants us to BELIEVE (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI). “The armed forces WOULD NOT allow anyone to discourage it from its role in PROTECTING Egypt and its people“. Again, this is whatTantawi wants us to BELIEVE and “(protect) Egypt and its people”, will once again require “the force and pain technique” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI).

“During her speech, Clinton said: “When we talk about supporting democracy, we mean REAL democracyTo us, REAL democracy means that EVERY citizen has the right to LIVE, WORK and WORSHIP AS THEY CHOOSE, whether they are man or WOMAN, Christian or Muslim”. ISN’T IT IRONIC how “woman” keeps coming up/getting mentioned?” This reinforces the fact that Arab women are FAR/MUCH more ambitious/driven/motivated than their Chinese counterparts because Chinese women, the most traditional ones at least, aim to DO NOTHING. REAL democracy means that NO group or faction or leader can IMPOSE their WILL, their IDEOLOGY, their RELIGION (or) their DESIRES on anyone else“. “impose”, of course, is the latest/another example of “the force and pain technique” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI).

Finally, “a senior U.S. official told reporters” “She (Clinton) wanted, in very, very clear terms, particularly with the Christian group this morning (July 16, 2012), to DISPEL THAT NOTION and to make clear that ONLY Egyptians can choose their leaders, that we HAVE NOT supported ANY candidate, ANY party and WE WILL NOTWe learned that lesson in IRAQ (how obsessing over stuff that’s none of our business can lead to SERIOUS trouble)Let’s also note, again, that impressions of the United States in the Middle East continue to be VERY BAD.
