SYRIA: “RUSH HOUR Bombings in DAMASCUS”: Al-Arabiya

The title of an Al-Arabiya article released on May 10, 2012 is “Damascus RUSH HOUR bombings kill 55, wound 400, as activists call for mass protests” (Web-site/URL:

“…Syrian STATE television reported that the twoTERRORIST ATTACKSkilled and wounded dozens “on the freeway in the south of Damascus”. The television added that the blasts occurred “as people were heading to work and children to school”. “terrorist attacks” againAgain, this is ” STATE television” PROPAGANDA.

“Haitham al-Maleh, of the opposition Syrian National Council (SNC), accused the regime in Damascus of masterminding the bombings, while London-based Syrian activist and journalist Bassam Jaara described the bombings as “the regime’s response to the U.N. condemnation of its acts”. THIS IS LEGIT.

“Samir Nashar, of the Syrian National Council’s (SNC’s) executive branch, said, “The regime is behind thisobviously. “He told AFP the aim of the blasts was to SEND A WARNING to U.N. observers monitoring a tenuous truce in Syria that they were in danger and to IMPRESS UPON the international community that the regime was battling “terrorists”. There are several things to note here. First, the “truce” in Syria is obviously very “tenuous” or UNCERTAIN. In addition, this is more SYRIAN GOVERNMENT PROPAGANDA. Let’s also note “impress upon them” because this is another example of the “force and pain technique” (Web-site/URL:

“The European Union (EU) SHARPLY CONDEMNED Thursday’s (May 10, 2012) powerful blasts, describing the attacks as “an act of PURE TERRORISMthat only BASHAR AL-ASSAD could have orchestrated. Also, “The EU sharply condemned Thursday’s powerful blasts”, but like the rest of us, THEY ARE HELPLESS TO STOP IT OR DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

According to Michael Mann, “spokesman for EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton”, “We STRONGLY CONDEMN the twin bomb attacks”. These are WORDS ONLY.

“A statement issued by International envoy Kofi Annan’s spokesman Ahmad Fawzi said AnnanCONDEMNS IN THE STRONGEST POSSIBLE TERMS the attacks that took place earlier today (May 10, 2012) in Damascus. He is SADDENED by the loss of life resulting from the two blasts and extends his condolences to the families of the victims. These abhorrent acts are unacceptable and the violence in Syria MUST stop”. More WORDS.

“From their side, China and Russia urged ALL PARTIES in Syria to “stop violence”. Well, BASHAR AL-ASSAD started this mess, this “violence”.

“after Beijing talks with counterpart Yang Jiechi”Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters “We ask ALL PARTIES to stop violence and cooperate with (U.N.-Arab League special envoy Kofi) Annan and (other) U.N. special envoys”THIS IS HYPOCRITICAL. The Russians and the Chinese clearly AREN’T doing this (i.e. “cooperate with…Annan”. As far as SYRIA is concerned, RUSSIA and CHINA continue to be MAJOR stones in the road or even BOULDERS.

Finally, “Responding to the Daraa attack, U.N. leader Ban Ki-moon warned Syria’s government and opposition there is only a BRIEF window” to avoid (an ALL-OUT) civil war and indicated the future of the ceasefire monitoring mission was in doubt. Highlighting an “ALARMING upsurge” of roadside bombs, alongside government attacks, Ban said BOTH sides “must realize that we (only) have a BRIEF window to stop the violence (and) a BRIEF opportunity to create an opening for POLITICAL ENGAGEMENT (?) between the government and those seeking change. BASHAR AL-ASSAD is clearly NOT interested in “political engagements”.

To conclude, let’s focus on part of the title: “activists call for mass protests”. This sounds like something that GIGI IBRAHIM (gsquare86) would do, but again, we are left to wonder: WILL THIS WORK? SYRIA IS STILL A MESS.
