AL JAZEERA’s MELISSA CHAN HOPES TO (?) Return to CHINA: Al-Jazeera

The title of an Al-Jazeera article released on May 11, 2012 is “Al Jazeera reporter HOPES TO GO BACK to China: Former Beijing correspondent says SHE BROKE NO LAWS, REPORTED HONESTLY and wants to return toplace I love” soon” (Web-site/URL: http://www.aljazeera.com/news/asia-pacific/2012/05/20125119554255350.html).

Al Jazeera English‘s former correspondent in China says she covered the country honestly and equitably and hopes to return to the country sooner rather than later despite having her press credentials revoked”.

Al Jazeera English announced earlier this week (May 7-11, 2012) that it would close its bureau in Beijing after authorities refused to renew Melissa Chan’s press credentials and visa or ALLOW A REPLACEMENT JOURNALIST“. This is another sign of China’s ARROGANCE,
a fundamental characteristic of “Difficult People” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI).

“Asked about the non-renewal of Chan’s visa, a foreign ministry spokesman (most likely LIU WEIMIN) said reporters working in Chinashould abide by CHINESE laws and regulations“, according to an Associated Press report”, “laws and regulations” that favor AUTOCRATIC/AUTHORITARIAN (or even TOTALITARIAN) DICTATORS, of course.

But in an article for Al Jazeera, Chan said: “I HAVE NOT broken any laws“. This is the latest ASSERTION.And I BELIEVE I have tried to cover China as honestly and EQUITABLY (i.e. OBJECTIVELY) as one can“. This is CHAN’S BELIEF (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI).

“One minute, you MARVEL  at THE SPEEDY TRANSFORMATION, THE NEW WEALTH (only for some) (and) THE GREAT HOPE OF MANY. Another minute, you’re DISGUSTED by the CORRUPTION, the systemic problems of a ONE-PARTY AUTHORITARIAN state and THE TRAMPLING OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND DIGNITY“. THIS IS LEGIT.

“China faces a critical political year, with a younger generation of Communist Party officials set to take power, Chan said, calling on leaders to display “audacity” in reforming the country’s legal system”. DO THEY DARE to do this? If this “younger generation of Communist Party leaders” is like the new leadership in NORTH KOREA, WE HAVE SERIOUS PROBLEMS.

“China HAS A LOT GOING FOR IT and that is especially felt when you’ve spent so much time talking to the people there. They can be INCREDIBLY RESILIENT, despite the fact that some (?) have definitely received the short end of the stick“. MANY “have received the short end of the stick”.

Like any country, people also WORRY and COMPLAIN, and like journalists on any beat, I’ve looked at those worries and complaints“. Unlike countries in the free worldpeople in mainland China DON’T have the right to voice these “complaints”. For example, access to social media (e.g. TWITTER & FACEBOOK) are SEVERELY restricted: we can’t get on those sites in Shanghai or Beijing, for example, without using some kind of ‘Wall Jump’, which is so annoying because when we get the web-site for the Wall Jump’, we have to use a USB (i.e. we CAN’T just click on the link in an e-mail). China always talks its 5000-year history. Well, guess what? China’s record on PRESS FREEDOM and HUMAN RIGHTS has been ATROCIOUS for 5000 years and this is UNLIKELY to change anytime soon, especially with the new law that they have now that allows Communist government agents to put hands on activists and dissidents WITHOUT notifying that person’s friends and family, which is TERRIBLE and certainly NOT something to be proud of.  “It’s part of the process of making a place I love a better one for its people [and] I HOPE TO BE BACK in China one day, sooner rather than later“, but SHE CAN’T, because reporting in China is just like reporting in SYRIA or NORTH KOREA nowIT’S SIMPLY TOO BIG OF A SAFETY RISK. We should write or report on China from HONG KONG or another overseas DEMOCRATIC country WITH FREE PRESS AND SOCIAL MEDIA, just like most reports about SYRIA come out of BEIRUT, or more recently, various cities in TURKEY, DUBAI and ABU DHABI. The Chinese dissident community has to be thinking now: IF THIS CAN HAPPEN TO MELISSA CHAN, IT CAN TO HAPPEN TO ANY OF US ANYWHERE AND AT ANY TIME.

This story is starting to sound a whole lot like AMANDA KNOX (Web-site/URL: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2091348/Amanda-Knox-plans-return-Italy-jailed-Meredith-Kercher-murder.html), which would be funny if we simply consider the fact that Knox is now a CELEBRITY, but IT ISN’T, because again, PEOPLE’S LIVES ARE AT STAKE.

  1. I’ve been surfing online more than three hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all site owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet will be a lot more useful than ever before.
