The title of a recently released Yahoo! article is “Obama unveils JOBS’ plan on a virtual ‘post-it’ note, URGING Congress to act” (Web-site/URL: http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/obama-unveils-jobs-plan-virtual-post-note-urging-213133839.html).
“in a speech at the SUNY-Albany Nano-Tech Complex, a science research facility”, Obama said: “I know (that) this is an ELECTION year. But IT’S NOT an excuse for inaction. Six months IS PLENTY OF TIME for Democrats and Republicans to GET TOGETHER and DO THE RIGHT THING“. When was the last time POLITICIANS “did the right thing?” Unfortunately,THIS IS BEYOND THE PRESIDENT’S CONTROL. This is especially true during an “election” year: people will surely be focusing ON THEIR OWN RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGNS. “It’s about the size of a Post-It note, so every member of Congress should have time to read it and THEY CAN GLANCE AT IT EVERY SO OFTEN (?), “(referring) to the virtual memo as “a handy little ‘to-do‘ list“. “they can glance at it every so often?” THIS IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY, with members of Congress surely obsessing over THEIR OWN RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGNS. Most people on Capitol Hill surely WON’T have the time nor the patience to read the President’s “Post-It Note”. “The truth is, THE ONLY way we can accelerate the job creation that takes place on a scale that is needed is BOLD ACTION FROM Congress“. “bold action” is clearly NOT going to come from a CONSERVATIVE/GOP-led House. “Just saying no to ideas that we know will help our economy ISN’T an option. THERE’S TOO MUCH AT STAKE. We’ve all got to pull in THE SAME direction“. Again, this IS NOT going to happen as we get ever closer to ELECTIONS.
Finally, “Brendan Buck, a spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner, mocked Obama’s VISUAL GIMMICK“. “visual gimmick?” Is YAHOO! now Republican-leaning? “The small, sticky ‘to-do list‘ is the perfect symbol for a shrunken presidency, more focused on CAMPAIGNING than GOVERNING“. And BOEHNER isn’t? BOEHNER is also up for re-election this year (i.e. in 2012).
Just as we expected, whenever the President and Congress try to work out a deal on or even just try to talk about JOBS, they always end up TRADING TALKING POINTS/HURLING INSULTS BACK AND FORTH. If President Obama is trying to “urge Congress to act”, again, this is clearly NOT happening.
