The title of an Al-Jazeera article released on May 8, 2012 is “Al Jazeera English FORCED OUT of China” (Web-site/URL: http://www.aljazeera.com/news/asia-pacific/2012/05/201257195136608563.html).
“Melissa Chan, who has been Al Jazeera English‘s China correspondent since 2007, has filed nearly 400 reports during her five years in the country. She has covered stories about the economy, domestic politics, foreign policy, the environment, SOCIAL JUSTICE, labour rights and HUMAN RIGHTS“. Of course, as we know, China’s record on “social justice” and “human rights” is/can only be described as ABYSMAL/ATROCIOUS.
According to Salah Negm, Al Jazeera English‘s news director,”We’ve been doing a FIRST-CLASS (?) job at covering ALL stories in China”. This is the latest INTERPRETATION (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI). Yes, this is true of Al-Jazeera, but so have many other networks. “Our editorial DNA includes covering ALL stories from ALL sides“. DO THEY? This is another INTERPRETATION (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgnAY_eXYbI). “We constantly cover THE VOICE OF THE VOICELESS and sometimes, that calls for TOUGH NEWS COVERAGE from anywhere in world“, “tough news coverage” THAT CHINA WILL NO LONGER ALLOW. This is true. “WE HOPE CHINA APPRECIATES (?) the integrity of our news coverage and our journalism“. China clearly DOES NOT “appreciate” ANYTHING EXCEPT ITS OWN PERSPECTIVE/IDEAS. “We value this journalist integrity in our coverage of ALL countries in the world“, except in NORTH KOREA and now CHINA, where objective coverage is impossible. “We are committed to our coverage of China. Just as China news services cover the world freely, we would expect that same freedom in China for any Al Jazeera journalist“. This wish is EXTREMELY UNLIKELY to be granted now that Melissa Chan has essentially been forced to leave. “China news services” can “c “Al Jazeera Media Network will continue to work with the Chinese authorities in order to reopen our Beijing bureau“. The question is: is CHINA “(willing)…to work with” Al-Jazeera or ANYONE ELSE?
Finally, “Bob Dietz of the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists said Chan’s case, the first expulsion of a journalist since 1998, “marks A REAL DETERIORATION in China’s media environment and sends a message that INTERNATIONAL coverage is UNWANTED“. Again, this is true in China and is a DISGRACE. In China, we have to ‘jump over a wall’ to go on sites such as TWITTER and FACEBOOK. GIVE US A BREAK. Even countries with dictators or former dictators such as EGYPT, LIBYA and SYRIA allow access to Twitter and Facebook and China claims to be REFORMING or OPENING UP? THIS IS A JOKE. Something must be wrong be wrong with China’s definition of “reforming” and “opening up”.
The bottom line is: CHINA is becoming increasingly like NORTH KOREA. People will only have access to information that SINGS PRAISE TO THE GOVERNMENT. THIS IS DEEPLY TROUBLING.
