The title of a recently released ABC News article is “Afghans LOB GRENADES at US Base, CLASH WITH Police” (Web-site/URL: http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/afghan-president-renews-call-calm-15793569#.T0pdwPgj_qA.twitter).
According to Afghan Ambassador Ryan Crocker, speaking on CNN‘s “State of the Union”, “TENSIONS ARE RUNNING VERY HIGH HERE (obviously) and I think we need to LET THINGS CALM DOWN (?), return to A MORE NORMAL ATMOSPHERE (?), and then get on with business“. “let things calm down?” This seems HIGHLY UNLIKELY, at least in the short term. “return to a more normal atmosphere?” WHAT EXACTLY IS “normal” now? “get on with business?” WILL AFGHANS LET AMERICANS DO THIS? “This IS NOT the time to decide that we’re done here. We have got to REDOUBLE our efforts. We’ve got to create a situation in which al-Qaida IS NOT coming back“. The latest Koran burnings makes stopping al-Qaeda much more UNCERTAIN now.
According to Navy Lt. Cmdr. Brian Badura, “INITIAL reports indicate that there were no ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) service member fatalities“. Of course THESE ARE ONLY “initial” indications.
“In a televised address to the nation, Afghan President Hamid Karzai renewed his calls for calm”. Of course, this all FELL ON DEAF EARS. People certainly ARE NOT “calm” throughout the Muslim world after yet another case of Americans insulting Islam. “Karzai did not mention the killings at the ministry in his opening remarks, but when a reporter asked, he said he was “saddened” by their deaths. He said (that) the UNPRECEDENTED recall of advisers was understandable, calling it “a TEMPORARY (?) step at a time when the people of Afghanistan are ANGRY over the burning of the holy Quran”. Two things to note here. First, IS THIS recall of US advisors from Afghanistan only “temporary?” Also, WE HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH “anger” in the world now TO LAST A LIFETIME.
Finally, according to Lt. Col. Jimmie Cummings, “a spokesman for the international force (ISAF)”, “We continue to MOVE FORWARD and STAND BY our Afghan PARTNERS in this campaign. WE WILL NOT LET THIS DIVIDE THE COALITION“. “stand by our Afghan partners?” IS THIS TRUE? Many Afghans DON’T think so.
To conclude, JOURNALISTS are also getting nervous again. In the video clip in this article, ABC‘s NICK SCHIFRIN reports that “Many Afghans want REVENGE“, which, as we know, is an “Ambassador of Doom” (Web-site/URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-AJviZ8Itk). He also asks an Afghan “…WOULD YOU ATTACK ME?” This reinforces the fact that people are clearly ON EDGE.
