Reactions to PAUL BABEU Announcing That He’s Gay: ABC

The title of an ABC News article released on February 19, 2012 is “Paul Babeu: Ariz. Sheriff Receives MIXED Support” (Web-site/URL:

“Arizona Sen. John McCain STOOD BY his friend and POLITICAL SUPPORTER“. “political supporter” is obviously a point of emphasis. “Well, of course  Sheriff Babeu is A FRIEND OF MINE. I do not know the details except what has been published in the media and I AM SURE (?) there will be a THOROUGH and COMPLETE (?) investigation IF there is ANY allegations of wrongdoing. All I can say is that he also deserves the benefit, as EVERY citizen does, of innocence until proven guilty”. “I am sure there will be a thorough and complete investigation…? How can McCain be SURE of this, UNLESS of course, “friend of mine” is significant, as it usually is. If “friend of mine” isn’t significant, then “political supporter” definitely is, because “political supporters” usually GIVE MONEY.

“Chairman of the Pinal County Board of Supervisors Pete Rios disagreed”. Speaking to the Arizona Republic, Rios said: “Clearly this is an issue that IS NOT going away anytime soonobviously. “It will be with the sheriff for quite a while and Pinal County for quite a while. WE’LL SEE IF the sheriff sees the light and that he is TRULY DAMAGING his department, law enforcement and Pinal County with these allegations”. “truly damaging” has VERY negative connotations.

“At a press conference Saturday (February 18, 2012)”, “Babeu dismissed the allegation that he threatened his ex-boyfriend, who was only identified by his first name, Jose, as “BLATANTLY, COMPLETELY FALSEAT NO TIME did I or anyone who represents me EVER threaten deportation, EVER. I NEVER believed he was less legal than I or you are”. That’s what they all say. “ever” and “never” are the latest UNPROVEN ASSERTIONS.

“But texts obtained by the Phoenix New Times that were traced back to Babeu’s phone number told a different story. Babeu allegedly wrote on Sept. 4, 2011″, “You can NEVER have business after this and you will harm me and many others in the process … INCLUDING YOURSELF & YOUR FAMILY“. That CERTAINLY sounds like a “threat”.

“Nearly 800 people commented on Babeu’s Facebook page under a statement posted by the sheriff denying the “false allegations”, but acknowledged that he is gay”.

According to Patricia Selliger, “The issue IS NOT sexual orientation. The issue is HYPOCRISYa public stand on border security all the while allowing AN ILLEGAL ALIEN to work on your website AND conducting a personal relationship with him. If we expect employers to verify employees’ status, public figures should be held to THE SAME standard”. BINGO. Also, which POLITICIAN ISN’T “hypocritical?”

Donna Daub had a DRASTICALLY different idea: “I’M SO SORRY you have to go through this! WE ALL (?) are so proud of you and follow what a wonderful job you do! STAY STRONG and BE PROUD!”, as if this guy ISN’T “proud” or ARROGANT enoughARROGANCE, of course, is a fundamental characteristic of “Difficult People” (Web-site/URL:

Finally, Baben still seemed carefree: “So, how is your weekend going?” he asked (a crowd) at a dinner hosted by the Yavapai County Republicans, the Arizona Republic reported”.

So, even a guy involved in a GAY SEX SCANDAL can receive “mixed support?” THIS IS DEEPLY TROUBLINGArizona is generally a GOP state where people have/support CONSERVATIVE values (e.g. MARRIAGE is between a MAN and a WOMAN). With this in mind, we have to wonder if this scandal involving the sheriff gives the advantage to ED PASTOR, THE INCUMBENT and whether DEMOCRATS can take back (or HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF taking back) THE HOUSE and by association, whether this improves PRESIDENT OBAMA‘s RE-ELECTION PROSPECTS. This means that the House election in Arizona’s 4th Congressional District is the latest race to watch/keep an eye on in the 2012 elections.

Ed Pastor represents the current District 4, but would run for re-election in the new District 7. Babeu is running in the new District 4, so those two would not face each other in the election.
